He finds himself being sent to the small town of Leavenworth, Washington, to supervise the shipment of the national Christmas tree. Here he meets Ken Rainey, the larger-than-life-seeming truck driver who is delivering the tree to the White House, and finds out that he must ride along in the truck with the tree. Concept of Justice - Dirt Floor - Bizarre Justice - Author: Henry Custer

Confronting an intruder in his home in Florida, Martin Lovett ultimately discovers that the intruder was the father of a child who had been abducted thirty years earlier in Oklahoma. Because of some sketchy evidence that Martin was possibly involved with that crime, the father was apparently seeking vengeance, or perhaps just answers. The details of this and other crimes Martin was involved in during his lifetime are told in flashback. Growing up during the war years of the forties, Marty lived through some pretty gritty times, leaving school at an early age, seeking adventure, finding trouble instead. In the meantime, Marty is plagued with memories of his past life. The deception of keeping his criminal activities from his wife is especially painful. The present day courts finally resolve the issue with Martin Lovett.

What kind of floors do you live on – carpet, hardwood, or dirt? Does it affect quality of life? This is the poignant story of one boy growing up in the foothills of eastern Oklahoma, the first of eight children, loved and cared for by hard-working but uneducated parents. From the beginning of the Great Depression of 1929 to the end of World War II in 1945, you will share the day-to-day hardships and occasional disaster, as well as the daily joy of just being themselves, as the author shares his worst and finest memories of childhood. Intermingled are the nightmares and stories related by a superstitious grandmother who lived with the family for some time. The family survived as the hired hands on several dirt farms until the advent of World War II changed the very essence of their way of life.

Reaching The Summit & Life As It Happens, Short Stories Vol. II - Author: Dr. Davood Khalili

This book is very inspirational, educational and entertaining; it is for all ages and for all of the people of the world. The short stories presented by the author are original and deal with philosophical, social and personal issues, with the aim of reaching the summit in life. The author presents a new style of storytelling by combining philosophy and logic in stories about modern Western life and the old Eastern experiences. He presents hope, in spite of some of the dramatic endings to his tales. The characters in these stories range from people to animals who speak the language set forth by the great Rumi, the ancient Persian philosopher.

From the Persian Gulf, a vital source of energy and major lifeline of the world, to the mountains of Afghanistan, to a plane in the sky, many people have suffered or have lost lives due to one’s mistakes or insanity of others, or injustices and the lack of regard for humanity in unforgettable events and tragedies.

The main focus of this book is to present stories that depict the system of values and the rationale used in defining moments of life that make history. The good, the bad, and the ugly are all cohabitants of the planet and share the journey of life.

Life as It Happens is a dramatic presentation of what happens in the real world we live in.

Our Day Will Come - Author: Jim Corbin

There was a time not so long ago, a time before Hendrix, pot, acid and free love, when doors were left unlocked, and neighbors knew and took care of each other. A little naďve? Maybe.

Our Day Will Come is a tale of teenage friends, but more than that, it’s a reflection of that time—innocence tempered with love, laughter, heartache and sorrow.

Growing up in rural New England in 1963 might not seem like much of a challenge in this new century. After all, the most pressing issues of the era were concerned with if the weather would hold until harvest time, or if the local high school football team would make the playoffs. But as the kids of Pine Valley looked forward to vacation, the winds of change were blowing. Little did they know that this particular summer would be a primer for the rest of their lives.

She kept seeing Karr, leaning against the cottonwood tree in the park, arms lazily folded as he watched her. The scene repeated over and over like a warped video. He’d even flipped a cocky little salute as she shot to her feet in terror, mocking her, so sure of himself while she grabbed Ritchie and ran. Bastard, she thought now. She grew so outraged she no longer felt afraid. It was time to stop running. Even with all the precautions of the shelter, he still found her. She and Ritchie would never be safe. Bitten & Dew Point: A Weekend in Passionville- Author:Randall Dyck

With Hitler’s Third Reich crumbling, a secret Nazi biological attack is unleashed, releasing over 1000 “weather balloons” with a deadly virus on-board each of them. Now, in modern-day America, the virus is innocently released. After so many years waiting, the virus had mutated into something even the evil doctor of inspiration had not anticipated. The voracious virus promptly infects its human hosts at 100 percent effectiveness with a malady that enhances their core make-up—what they truly are—into a ridiculously bizarre representation of what they were before they became infected, good or evil. The rapid and horrific explosion of metamorphosis is shocking, even if it is sometimes a good thing—a needful thing. The battle between good and evil suddenly erupts as both sides viciously go at each other in a nighttime street battle that sometimes goes hand-to-hand. Some say that good always wins over evil.

Passionville, California is a small upscale community of the nearly-do-well who struggle each day to maintain the façade that their life is great. The truth is that things are not going so well. Many don’t have the means to pay their mortgages, and they certainly don’t have the income to furnish their mansions fittingly.

Enter the relentless heat and humidity and…the Dew Point.

Passionville is over eighty days into the hottest season on record, and the most humid, with dew point readings pushing eighty. Now, combined with mounting debt and relentless calls from creditors, as well as the incessant heat, humidity, and dew point, the people of Passionville quickly change.

They crack.

This phenomenon occurs over a long weekend, and as the temperature goes up, so does the body count.

It’s not the heat or the humidity…it’s the dew point!

Dew Point strums that nasty nerve inside us all. It’s a dormant nerve, awakening quickly for some and later for others…in any case, when rubbed the wrong way, the absolute worst in us comes out.

Readers will encounter some very disturbing scenes that go on and on. Comic relief does come, but your laughter may be nervous.

Rachel O’Neill was invited to England by a friend who was in need of her accounting expertise. Of course, Ethan Philip’s ulterior motive was his love for her. He wanted her whether she crunched his numbers or not. Rachel jumped at the invitation for her own frantic reasons, none of which included romance. It was New Year’s Eve at the Ritz in London. Rachel didn’t care about the high-class, snobbish plans Ethan had made for the two of them. She wanted to be in Trafalgar Square with the “real” people at midnight. She wanted to feel Piccadilly and Soho, and experience the excitement at Trafalgar Square at that one incredible moment. After persuading Ethan to take her there, it did quickly become an incredible moment, for she was swept up and kissed passionately by a handsome stranger. At that very instant, her life changed forever.

The Temptress Ariel and Selene's Guiding Light - Author: Greg Bauder

The Temptress Ariel is a unique foray into a modern relationship between a naive and sensitive man, Don, and a streetwise, free-spirited young woman, Ariel, who both suffer from schizophrenia. Don is lovestruck and pursues the moody Ariel after they meet in a psychiatric boarding home, a house in the community which is a recent type of addition to the mental health system. Don and Ariel are both haunted by their past loves so much that their illnesses are influenced into delusions about love. At the heart of the novel is the quest for meaningful relationships in a world where suspicion, manipulation and paranoia create snags that hurt — and are often debilitating to the point of hospitaliztion.

Selene’s Guiding Light sees the grieving Don tumble through the cosmos of psychosis, while clinging to his reality that maybe there is life for him after Ariel’s death. With his guide, the moon-goddess, Selene, he seeks the answers we all search for regarding the meaning of love, life and the mysteries of the universe. With Selene, he unlocks many doors to his life, but only encounters more beyond. Throughout this sequel to The Temptress Ariel, Don is challenged to bring to light the enigma surrounding Ariel’s passing, while dealing with the dragons of his past that have left him in full, deluded schizophrenia—or an awakened consciousness. He awaits a New Earth while he wanders downtown Vancouver’s eastside ghetto, where the two merge into one when justice meets the rogue corporations’ and politicians’ actions, which have literally left the sick and poor out in the cold.
